Kettle Energy is building an AI platform that helps housing providers and residents use electricity more intelligently. By coordinating connected homes, the platform is designed to store energy when it is abundant (cheaper) to use at peak times when electricity is typically more expensive. This reduces costs and the carbon footprint. We are inviting UK housing providers to help shape and validate the first pilots.

A smart way to match energy with demand.

    Cleaner electricity becomes available.

    Wind and solar output can sometimes exceed what the country is using at that particular moment. For example, it is night time and extremely windy. This pushes the price of electricity down.

    Supply and demand do not always align.

    The network cannot always move that electricity to where it is needed, so some clean generation is turned down, or switched off entirely. Balancing the grid, so that supply and demand match at every moment, is the job of the National Energy System Operator (NESO).

    Kettle's AI platform coordinates the response.

    Kettle's AI platform is designed to interpret energy availability, time and expected household demand all of which impact the cost. The platform connects the home assets so electricity can be stored and made available at more useful times.

    Homes access energy at better (by better we mean cheaper) times.

    Participating households would draw on stored electricity when they need it most (which is typically when demand is high). This approach reduces waste and cost.

The platform is designed to identify when electricity can be stored and when it can be made available for homes, while giving housing providers an estate-wide view of pilot performance.
