Behind the Kettle Energy Pilot

There is a version of a technology pilot that exists to produce a favourable case study. It picks the best properties, measures generously, and reports a headline number. It is also useless, because it tells a landlord nothing about what would happen across the rest of the portfolio.

Start with the baseline, not the installation

Before any equipment is fitted, we agree how the counterfactual will be established: what a home would have consumed and paid without intervention. That means a period of half-hourly data collection, adjusted for weather and occupancy, and written down before anyone knows the answer.

Seven stages, in order

1. Discovery — portfolio characteristics, resident engagement capacity, data protection responsibilities.
2. Feasibility — property survey, electrical suitability, indicative sizing.
3. Design — measurement framework, resident communications, safeguarding sign-off.
4. Consent — resident information, opt-in, and a clear route to withdraw.
5. Installation — qualified electricians, planned interruptions, handover.
6. Operation — continuous control and monitoring, with a named contact for faults.
7. Evaluation — measured results against the agreed baseline, published to the landlord.

What we will not do

• We do not cold-call residents or sell at the doorstep.
• We do not present synthetic or simulated data as though it came from occupied homes.
• We do not quote savings we have not measured.
